I am passionate about Public Health and believes that affordable and reliable healthcare is a basic need and right in a truly sustainable society. Three years ago, I led a project working towards eliminating extreme poverty by conducting a pediatric health camp and awareness programme in underprivileged schools in the slums of Colombo. Medicines, donated , were distributed free of charge. Thus I was chosen as Global Teen Leader by the We Are Family Foundation and enabled me to attend the Just Peace Summit in New York City in 2008. In the aftermath of the tsunami, I conducted fundraisers in Colombo for hospitals in the east of Sri Lanka.
Currently, I am working on the project I founded - KICK THE BUTT KICK THE BUTT is an anti-teen smoking campaign in urban Sri Lanka that aims at changing teenage mindsets via fashion and social media. It is the first ever fashion + social media led anti-teen smoking campaign in the world. Thus creating a sensation of attraction to be a non-smoker amongst teens thus empowering teens to find their own voices to stand up against teenage smoking.
I was chosen to attend the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2010 in Davos, as Global Changemaker. Thus as one of the 6 Global Changemakers from around the world and as the youngest participants at the forum, we represented the voice of youth at Davos. At the WEF I was able to introduce and market KICK THE BUTT to many World Leaders and Businessmen.
